Privacy & Compliance Coordinator
Position Summary
Responsible for reviewing medical records for compliance with coding and documentation requirements, accurately responding to and processing requests for the disclosure of protected health information (PHI) according to government and WCM regulations, ensure patient privacy and assist in privacy investigations.
Job Responsibilities
+ Performs ongoing prospective coding & documentation chart reviews for physician services to ensure that ICD-10-CM, CPT,HCPCS & HCC coding supports the services billed. Identifies issues & patterns related to coding inaccuracy & reports pertinent findings.
+ Participates in annual and on-going mandatory compliance training. Fulfills Continuing Education Units necessary to maintain certification status.
+ Remains knowledgeable and current with compliance, privacy and release of information regulations.
+ Reviews and processes Release of Information (ROI) requests. Monitors various systems/reports to ensure the timely processing of requests.
+ Processes incoming and outgoing mail, faxes and emails on a daily basis. Receives and responds to calls to the department and routes them appropriately.
+ Determines records to be released by reviewing requestor information in accordance with HIPAA, State and WCM policies and procedures.
+ Participates in processing Business Associates Agreements (BAA).
+ Participates in privacy investigations.
+ Assists in clinical research audits.
+ Performs other related duties as directed.
Education
+ High School Diploma
Experience
College Degree Preferred.
Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) or Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) preferred.
Approximately 1 year of experience in physician billing, CPT, ICD-10-CM or HCPCS Coding.
Working knowledge of federal and state billing, documentation and compliance regulations.
Knowledge of third party insurance billing policies and procedures.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
+ Ability to perform duties in a highly organized, efficient and reliable manner.
+ Conducts job related activities in a highly confidential manner and in accordance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) guidelines.
+ Must be able to work independently and use sound judgment to execute assignments.
+ Demonstrated proficiency with MS Office Suite and database applications.
+ Strong critical thinking and problem solving skills with proven ability to apply creative approaches to complicated questions.
+ Excellent customer service skills.
Licenses and Certifications
+ Certified coder (CPC, CCS-P, or CPC-A, CCA)
